Hawksmoor School

Curriculum Statement

At Hawksmoor Primary School we offer a curriculum which is broad and balanced and which builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills of all children, whatever their starting points, as they progress through each Key Stage.

The curriculum incorporates the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum (2014) and other experiences and opportunities which best meet the learning and developmental needs of the pupils in our school.

The aim of our curriculum is for pupils to have the requisite skills to be successful, independent and motivated learners in readiness for their next stage of education. Specialist teachers and instructors support music and PE.

Each subject has its own discipline and this is explicit in the teaching. Links are made across subjects to strengthen children’s understanding. Pupils make more connections across the curriculum as a whole when subjects are thoroughly taught and carefully linked.

Our subject overviews show the development of each of the subjects across the school.

Each half term children undertake a visit or have visitors in school to support their learning. This provides enriching life experiences for the children promotes learning in a wide environment.

After school clubs and events extend these opportunities further.

Developing children’s independence and motivation as learners and their sense of responsibility as future citizens is at the heart of all our teaching and learning. Hawksmoor is a caring and supportive community, which helps develop pupil confidence and enables them to become better learners, both in school and in life.
